About
Corylus Architects Ltd was established in 2010 by Hazel Buckingham, a Chartered Architect with experience across a wide range of project types. Over the years, the practice has worked on home extensions, refurbishments, barn conversions, listed buildings, conservation area projects, community facilities, commercial developments and housing schemes.
Hazel studied Architecture at Cardiff University and is registered with the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and a member of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS). Her experience includes working in both small architectural practices and a larger city-based practice, where she managed the design and construction of Liverpool’s Phase Three Sure Start Centres.
A significant proportion of the practice’s work involves adapting and improving existing buildings. This includes traditional houses, farm buildings, community facilities, commercial premises and heritage assets. Hazel has developed particular expertise in finding practical and imaginative solutions that balance modern requirements with the character and constraints of existing buildings.
Building on this experience, Hazel is also a qualified Retrofit Coordinator and Retrofit Designer, providing PAS 2035-compliant retrofit services. This additional expertise allows Corylus Architects to advise clients on improving energy efficiency, reducing running costs and planning long-term improvements to existing buildings while safeguarding their performance, durability and character.
Corylus Architects combines architectural design, technical expertise and a practical understanding of construction to help clients create buildings that are functional, sustainable and built to last.
